EHRC launches inquiry into racial inequality for health and social care workers

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has opened a statutory inquiry into racial inequality of ethnic minority workers in health and social care roles. The inquiry will focus on ethnic minority workers in lower paid roles in Great Britain. It will look at experiences from 1 January 2019 to date and will seek to understand how certain ethnic groups in lower paid roles have been more impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19). A call for evidence will be announced in the coming weeks.

Chief Executive of the EHRC, Rebecca Hilsenrath, commented that “The pandemic has exposed racial inequality across the country” and that the inquiry will help “understand the structural issues which have left people from a range of ethnic minorities at greater risk.”
